Think about where you were when you first encountered PMRA. Maybe it was a conference panel where someone finally asked the question you'd been circling for years. A conversation in a hallway that turned into a collaboration. A mentor who made time for you because this community made time for them.

That is what PMRA has built over 25 years — not just a professional association, but the intellectual home of a field. Now, as we mark this milestone, we face a question that every academic community eventually confronts:

What does it take to sustain something worth sustaining?

We believe the answer starts with you.

Why This Campaign

The financial ground is shifting.
Our field's needs are not.

Public management research has never been more needed. The questions our field asks — about governance, accountability, public organizations, and the people who run them — are pressing in ways that are hard to overstate. Our journals shape the literature. Our conference generates the conversations. Our networks produce the collaborations that advance the work.

Journal revenues that once underwrote the infrastructure of professional communities are declining. Institutional support is thinning. Associations that don't build independent financial strength now will find themselves constrained precisely when the field needs them most.

PMRA has been thoughtful stewards. Our endowment, managed through the Douglas County Community Foundation, supports operations, awards, and member programs. But to do in the next 25 years what we've done in the last, we need to grow it — meaningfully, sustainably.

Our goal is to grow the PMRA General Endowment by $500,000 in honor of our 25th anniversary. This is not a campaign for a building. It is an investment in the intellectual infrastructure of a field — the kind that doesn't make headlines but makes careers, shapes scholarship, and connects the researchers who advance knowledge about how public organizations work.

What Your Gift Sustains

The programs that define PMRA — and that PMRA makes possible.

The Annual Conference

PMRC is where careers are launched, collaborations are born, and the field takes stock of itself. Where junior scholars meet mentors, and where the work gets tested by the people who know it best.

Our Journals

JPART and PPMG are among the most cited outlets in public administration. The editorial infrastructure behind them depends on PMRA's financial stability.

Awards & Recognition

From dissertation awards to travel inclusion funds, PMRA's awards signal to the field what matters and open doors for scholars who might not otherwise walk through them.

Independence

An endowed association is a free association. Financial strength means PMRA makes decisions based on what's right for the field — not what's necessary for survival.

A word to those who built this

"I believe this field is worth investing in. I believe PMRA is how we do it together."

If you've been part of PMRA for a decade or more — if you served on the board, hosted a conference, edited a journal, or simply showed up year after year — you know what this community is at its best.

You've watched junior scholars become senior ones. You've seen debates that mattered and work that held up under scrutiny. This campaign is an invitation to make that continuity not just possible, but permanent.
